I tell every customer the same thing: if you're running it every day, give it a quick rinse every three days and a full vinegar clean once a month. Super easy: empty the tank, pour in half white vinegar half water, let it sit 30-60 minutes (longer if it's gross). Grab an old toothbrush and scrub every corner, especially the little nooks where scale hides. Rinse until you can't smell vinegar anymore, then let everything air dry in the sun if possible. Takes me about 15 minutes active time and the tank looks brand new again.
Honeywell units are my most common call. Unplug it first, take out the filter and water tray. Soak everything removable in straight vinegar for 20-30 minutes that white scale just melts off.
